Transmission 142: Noise

When did multitasking become the default human setting?

Santa told me to tell you to treat yourself with something nice this year. A warm, snuggly hoodie. Kind of like wearing a nice hot shower all day long. Minus the wet and the steam and the nakedness…

Check out the Greetings, Earthling shop! You look good in purple!

Today, I would like to talk about noise.

Not the sound kind.
The thought kind.

All the buzzing, circling, orbiting ideas
that crowd your mind the moment you wake up.

Tasks.
Worries.
Plans.
Old memories.
Random sentences from conversations you had six years ago.

Everything fighting for attention all at once.
When did multitasking become the default human setting?
It is no wonder you feel overwhelmed.
It is no wonder you forget things.
It is no wonder your brain sometimes feels like a crowded space station
with all the alarms going off at once.

But humans have ways to quiet the noise.
You can make a plan.

- - - - - QUIET - - - - -

1. The 60-Second Reset
When your thoughts scatter, stop everything for one minute.
Feet on the floor.
Deep breath.
Decide on the three things that matter most today.
Everything else can orbit quietly for now.

2. Write It Down
Brains are not storage containers.
Anything you write down will stop shouting.
A list is not just a list
it is a vacuum that pulls noise out of your mind.

3. The Device Distance Trick
Put your phone in another room for twenty minutes.
Not off.
Not hidden.
Just far enough away that reaching for it feels unreasonable.
Your attention will expand to fill the space it leaves behind.

4. The Doorway Pause
Every time you enter a new space,
your kitchen, your office, your car,
pause for two seconds.
Ask yourself who you want to be in that room.
This single moment of intention can change the entire day.

5. The Tiny Walk
Walk for two minutes.
Not for exercise.
For recalibration.
Motion clears mental static faster than almost anything.

These are small things.
Quiet things.
But noise is defeated by quiet things.

Standing in the shower.

One of the most miraculous sensations
on this entire planet
is simply… hot water
falling from the sky
on command.

On my home world,
the temperature is what you would call
nice and cool.
Always.
A gentle breeze.
Soft air.
Very pleasant.
Very predictable.
Never heat.

So the first time I stepped into a human shower
and felt hot water
pour onto my shoulders,
I froze in place.
Voluntarily stuck.
Trapped by comfort.

It was warm.
It was cleansing.
It was satisfying in a way
I cannot fully translate.
Like receiving a hug
from the universe
and the universe has very good water pressure.

A simple Earth moment
that resets the mind,
loosens the tension,
and reminds you that comfort
can be both small
and extraordinary.

Greetings, Earthling is a free daily newsletter designed to help you slow down, feel better, and start your mornings with a sense of meaning. Written from the perspective of a curious space observer named NeilA, each transmission blends mindfulness, motivation, and emotional insight with a hint of cosmic wonder.

Inspired by Stoic philosophy, Tao, Alan Watts, behavioural science, and the strange beauty of being human, these messages offer gentle reminders to live with purpose, pay attention, and appreciate the little things. Part alien wisdom, part self-help, part poetic dispatch, it’s a daily pick-me-up disguised as a transmission from the stars.

If you’re looking for a mindful routine, a feel-good newsletter, or thoughtful guidance that fits in your inbox, you’re in the right place. This is for anyone who wants to be more present, more kind, and more connected to yourself, to others, and to the universe around you.

If this helped, pass it along. Or send them here. Signals get stronger when more receivers are tuned in.

Thank you for reading. Your presence means more than you know.
