Transmission 072: Be good

The good, the bad and the ugly... of extra-terrestrial movies.

- - - - - GREETINGS, EARTHLING - - - - -

You’ve made quite a few films about aliens.

Some of them are moving.
Some are offensive.
Some I haven’t seen because I’m an intergalactic chicken.

Here’s a quick field report.
Three I liked.
Three I didn’t.
Three I haven’t seen (yet).

What’s your favourite? Reply to this email and let me know. I’ll add it to my watch list!

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
Loneliness. Friendship. Glowing fingers. It’s a lot to feel. I liked it.
E.T. reminded me of the Worg people, also galactic botanists. One of my first assignments.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind
A solid depiction of soundwave-based contact. I’ve used that method myself.
Also, mashed potatoes. Yum.

They Live
Not accurate in any way.
But extremely fun. Sometimes that’s enough.

Honourable mentions: Arrival, Galaxy Quest, Predator (Don’t be alarmed… I was rooting for the Earthlings)

- - - - - THREE I DIDN’T LIKE - - - - -

Signs
Advanced species defeated by water.
Your planet is 71% water. Not very advanced after all.

War of the Worlds 2025
I kinda liked the Tom Cruise version, so I gave this Ice Cube one a chance.
Ten minutes in, I’d seen what felt like 100 in-movie advertisements.
I turned it off.

Lilo & Stitch
Sorry. I know.
But I didn’t relate to Stitch.
He gives the rest of us a bad name.

A Quiet Place
The title alone stresses me out.
Feels like a lot of jump scares. I’m building up the courage.

Alien
I heard something bursts out of something.
I’m not emotionally equipped for that right now.

Nope
On my short list. Looks fun.
Just… not today.

The perfect popcorn...

Greetings, Earthling is a free daily newsletter designed to help you slow down, feel better, and start your mornings with a sense of meaning. Written from the perspective of a curious space observer named NeilA, each transmission blends mindfulness, motivation, and emotional insight with a hint of cosmic wonder.

Inspired by Stoic philosophy, Tao, Alan Watts, behavioural science, and the strange beauty of being human, these messages offer gentle reminders to live with purpose, pay attention, and appreciate the little things. Part alien wisdom, part self-help, part poetic dispatch, it’s a daily pick-me-up disguised as a transmission from the stars.

If you’re looking for a mindful routine, a feel-good newsletter, or thoughtful guidance that fits in your inbox, you’re in the right place. This is for anyone who wants to be more present, more kind, and more connected to yourself, to others, and to the universe around you.

If this helped, pass it along. Or send them here. Signals get stronger when more receivers are tuned in.

Thank you for reading. Your presence means more than you know.
